ASUS claims 2025 will be another ‘dynamic year’ for the handheld gaming market and that future iterations of handhelds are in line for significant leaps in performance. Speaking to PCBuilder.io, an ASUS spokesperson revealed they are ‘committed’ to the ROG Ally and continuously enhancing the gaming experience.

“We can assure you that the ROG Ally is a product line we are committed to, with a focus on continuously enhancing the gaming experience,” they said. “This applies not only to future products but also to existing models through regular software updates, ensuring they remain optimised and relevant throughout their lifecycle.”

ASUS has already made significant improvements to the ROG Ally X based on customer feedback. This includes ergonomics, colour, connectivity, battery, thermals and cooling. “At ROG, we deeply value and listen to our customers, and their input will continue to play a key role in shaping future releases across our product lineup,” the spokesperson explained.

When asked about future models and how the handheld market will evolve this year, ASUS explained that they have seen ‘promising’ performance per watt, which will ultimately lead to a ‘noticeable’ jump in handheld performance.

“We believe 2024 was an exciting year for the handheld gaming market. Since the introduction of the ROG Ally, we’ve seen many other OEMs enter the space in their own unique ways. Looking ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be another dynamic year for the industry, and as history shows in both tech and other sectors, early-stage growth tends to be exponential.

“The gaming performance per watt we have seen so far is promising and we’re looking forward to a noticeable jump in performance from future platforms.”

While nothing has been confirmed, it is widely expected that a future iteration of ASUS’s handheld would run AMD’s newly-announced handheld gaming PC processor – the Ryzen Z2. The new models feature up to 8 “Zen 5” CPU cores and are powered by RDNA 3.5 architecture-powered graphics. AMD claims the Z2 has been optimised to offer ‘hours of uninterrupted play time’ and currently features in Lenovo’s Legion Go S.
